we approach green projects
with experience
and practicality.
The personal and professional histories of Organic Think’s people culminate in its philosophy of green education and green building consultation, drawing from Rob and Lindsay’s diverse experiences as an environmental scientist, a biologist, naturalists, teachers, green builder and green realtor.
education
Rob and Lindsay were both public school teachers with very similar philosophies. They both strove to develop professional relationships with their students based on mutual respect. Students learned in an atmosphere of positive encouragement, appropriate autonomy, empowerment and were never underestimated. With science backgrounds, Rob and Lindsay adhered to an educational philosophy that centered on experiential, hands on learning activities. Scientific method, experimentation and socratic questioning led students to individual discovery and content mastery.
practicality
Many of the methods that were honed in the Moody’s individual classrooms are applicable to Organic Think’s green building education and consultation projects. Organic Think emphasizes practicality and pragmatism in their projects. In order for the latest in green building and building science methodology to be utilized and accepted, techniques need to be feasible and affordable given the specific context and parameters of a project. Our educational philosophy, optimistic attitude plus a healthy dose of pragmatism will give our projects the best opportunity to be viable and successful.
green building
Green building is the best way to build if we want to enjoy a healthy world whose resources we preserve, protect, and share. We do want such a world. Toward these ends, we emphasize design, environmentally-conscious site preparation, optimal site orientation, efficient resource use, energy efficiency, passive and active solar features, indoor air quality, and sustainable native landscaping.
To measure projects objectively and provide assurance to our clients and the marketplace, we suggest building homes that meet Energy Star, LEED for Homes and applicable state or regional green building standards.
design
Good design must incorporate green design to be morally and ethically aligned with our philosophy. Green design must incorporate good design – beauty, grace, and usefulness – to bolster its intrinsic and aesthetic worth. Green design is an approach, not a style.
Good design has inherent green value. A well-designed house with spectacular features will be respected, appreciated, and loved. This increases a home’s likelihood for long-term survival, ensuring that resources will remain useful rather than becoming landfill fodder.
Good design is ingrained in our personal histories and our families’ histories.
triple bottom line
With the rising tide of environmental awareness in companies, government and consumers, the companies that stand out the most are those that analyze the entirety of their services, operations and locations from environmental, social and economic viewpoints. Triple Bottom Line is a phrase coined in the 1990s and refers to the expansion of business values to include concerns and responsibility for people, planet and profit. At Organic Think, we pay attention to the Triple Bottom Line and weave the philosophy into the entirety of our processes.
